For HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
RED LOVE
He’s poison,
quick to cause harm.
Loving him is like believing in Adam & Eve,
and receiving snake bites.
Bitten.
Becoming as bitter as the fruit I couldn’t refuse,
but blaming the apple is easier to admit.
He wrote me love letters against my will beneath the tree of knowledge,
knowing confusion smells like love without taste.
Toxic.
I abandon my innocence to his psyche,
it’s likely I’ll be dead by morning with a glass half empty of red ribbons.
Pssst,
AIDS felt good last night.
Pass it on.
