Alice

She hailed from parted rivers combined with Indian and Cajun ripples.
A Goddess of immaculate fortitude kept secret in hand palms.
Heven sent,
She is angelic with an angels face.
her smile smiles Amazing Grace from its thin spaces.
And when its gaped open I'm intrigued by her tongue and the language it speaks.

They named her Alice.
Noble and true of her wonderland's virtue
She,
is God's human expression of perfection.
I've never wondered who she was,
Just how can I be like her?
I am honored to have lived inside of her once.
Soft tissue made my heads pillow warmer.
And my rough edges are smoothed over by the echo of her tone.
Together, braided
Bonded by her womb
-that is my sacred place even now
As always,
I go there for caring ears,
drying tears,
calming fears,
converstating piece of mind.

If I lay close enough to her heart
I'm able to dance to the beat of it.
Chiming in harmony,
Her breath exhaled my life.
I'm blessed to be apart of her kingdom.
I love you...
More than yesterday,
And twice as much tomorrow.
You are so beautiful, to me...
I see a glimpse of heaven in your pupils,
And overcame road bumps in your dimples.
Bruised, battered, beatin, Alice carried on
Writing me into her script.
They named me Ebony,
Female of dark black beauty.
Gifted with the gift of poetry,
Talented with the talents of loving,
Forgiving with the truth of being forgave.
Thank you for these traits,
And for writing me into your Kingdom.

Love Story

I swallowed back butterflies into my stomach when I saw you,
Because you…
You make me nerves.

My eyes fluttered as my heart pitter-battered
At this angel disguised as a man.
His eyes sucked me in like quicksand,
And his lips whispered music from its creases.

He spoke to me without speaking…
And I loved him for that.
Heart attacks crowded my chest as he asked me my name.
I wondered the same of his,
Wanting to know what it would sound like beginning with Mrs. David Braswell

My hair stood up on the back of my neck,
And ran down my spine,
As I turned into putty in his hands,
I liked it there.

Connections began as we connected telepathically,
Then emotionally,
Equally we became best friends,
Then lovers,
Trapped in time capsules forever.

Your scent exhaled from your pores
And restored themselves in my clothes,
Then through my nose…
Reaching my brain.
So I contain a piece of you now.
Thank you.

I fantasized about our 1st date,
You know before it actually happened...
Taking place at I-Hop.
My heart stopped as you put strong limbs around my limber body.

I don’t remember feeling like this,
Our 1st kiss had my heart skipping beats.
You revived me with poetry,
And we flowed together.
Complimenting apples of each others eyes,
to my surprise,
I fell in love with loving me through you.
Can you understand that I'm still working on me?

“Maybe we outta think twice.
Before we start something nice.
No need to sacrifice the spice in our lives”

Heaven opened gates as your lips parted to ask me on bending knee to marry you.
Damn.
Two karate with 70 diamond thangs is not the reason you keep me shining,
Nor the reason why I said yes.
My heart says yes.
And I’ll continue to whisper it in your dreams,
As it beams life into your eardrums,
And becomes rhythmic with your soul.

So,
On July 7, 2007
I saw us at the alter,
Making altering life changes that cause us to become one.
I’m completed there…
And I love US for that.

ABORTED
They say,
A woman can bare the pain of childbirth,
Because she has something to hold at the end of it…
But I hadn’t even given it a beginning.

You wanted me to love you,
And trust,
I wanted too.
You asked of me everything
And in return…
I gave you nothing.
Not sight,
Not life.

The vision was envisioned for you to grow inside of me
This beautiful baby boy seed.
But see,
Things didn’t go as planned.
I wanna say…
The timing wasn’t right,
You were conceived on the wrong night…
I wanna say,
You were going to be my biggest accomplishment,
And it’s astonishing that I hadn’t even seen you,
But I had imagined you’d have,
His lips and my eyes,
My eyes and his hair.
To where…
Every time I see a little mixed breed
I stop and stare.
Wondering if God had went ahead and gave your face to that child,
And that child was really mine.
See I’ve calculated a few times and by now,
You’d be about 5.

You’d have the dark skin of a Latino,
Can’t speak a lick of Spanish though.
Stand 3’6,
Weigh 40lbs.
And seem to shutter at the sound of pappi tryin to kill me.
So you stand in between the two,
The dirt and the soil that made,
Created,
Loved you…
But we didn’t know how.

I wanna say…
You’d grow up,
Broken up by the household.
Be cold towards daddy,
But blame mommy.
You’ll be indeceive like him,
But blunt like me…
Except for the concept of being man enough to be a leader,
Not a follower.
You didn’t get that shit from me.

You’d be emotionally unstable,
And capable of having zero remorse,
Of course…
You got that from me.
But you can love just like me,
And be determined like me.
And with those qualities of mommy beating through your heartbeat,
Makes my eyes cry to think of the ties we could’ve had.

Instead I woke up on table cold of steel,
With straddled legs…
Chapped lips…
And said,
More like pleaded: Please don’t take my baby!
Mumbles of…”Give her something for the pain”
Rearrange themselves in my heart…
Yes,
Where is something for the pain?
Even now.
Anesthesia wasn’t enough to numb the thoughts of canceling you.

You asked of me everything,
And I gave you nothing.

I should’ve had you,
Put you up for a adoption so at least you had a chance.
But instead I sent you to dance up into the Heavens with God
As He gives you sight and life…
To know that mommy still loves you as you wanted me too.
I wanna say…
I just wasn’t ready to.

You asked nothing of me,
And I took everything from you…
Even myself.

Lend me a pen
So I can tell you of how many men almost ruined the predestin of us.
Him and I,
we fussed to much...
He wasn't man enough...
With him I had to act too tough...
That one lied and stuff...
And the last one,
He had a combination of all four,
plus he used to beat me up.
Scars go deeper than the naked eye...
There is no pen or paper that has enough ink or enough trees to compensate for the tears I've cried.
I throw-up emotions because my digestive system doesn't take them well.
And I tell myself that,
this too shall pass.
But I've been notorious for trying to believe my own bullshit in the past.
Truth is,
My star doesn't always shine...
I'm not always doing fine...
And my wounds,
haven't been healed with time.
But just give me some.
Lend me a pen
So I can write love letters of how I love you, baby.
To an infinate amount,
with infiniate amounts,
You are my infinate amount, baby.
My mind makes love to you on continous cloud 9's.
As you become my sunshine during the day
Then my moon at night.
Some star you are that shines so bright.
You look like my galaxy.
And my future is held in your milky way.
Calvary,
It was inevitable for you to save me.
Life opened up into a new just being in the presence of you.
Lend me a pen
So I can tell you thank you for being my change.
You wipe away tears with your naked eye.
Just something I'm working on...

Kim,

Your words were beautiful just like you. I am thankful that your words blessed everyones ears. I know you made your brothers proud as you made me, your little sister in poetry, proud also. You direct me to want to be a better poet. I love you and your spirit. Thank you for your mentoring, friendship, and character. Let tears be wiped away with memories. Smile at the sun.

Always,

Eb & Flow

Piggy-Back...

I'M GRATEFUL THAT....

...David and I settled some differences last night.
...My mother fell asleep last night and slept sound.
...My sister started her new job today, and she likes it.
...I had an overall good day yesterday, and that the bus came on time!
...My boss bought me and my co-workers tickets to a ballet (plus a seat for a guest).
...I have a blog to express feelings and emotions easier.
...David is alive and well.
...I am alive and well.
...I live I learn I grow everyday.
...I don't understand everything, but I understand a lot.
...I am open enough to share things with those who are close to me.
...I got an email from Hammond today, my Bone.
...My sista, mentors in poetry, understand me.
...I got to encourage someone today.
...He smiles, she smiles, we smile and laugh together.
...He held me tight while sleeping, comfort in eachother.
I'll be love if you be love....
And I love you in return.
Everyone...Everywhere...

My eyes swell and fill with tears but I'll hold them back with bitten lips and stunned faces.
How do I tell my Love that his love has ran to heaven with wings on his back?
Afraid that fast memories of his fathers steps would come back to mind.
But I told him.
Looks of confusion filled his freshly wakened face.
What do I say now?
Braced face for strong limbs to cut off circulation with embracing me...
But instead he called Coach Bragner for relief in giving relief.
And I heard him laugh.
Thank you.
His laughter makes beats beat in my heart...I'm alive and well.

I don't fear death...
Just the losses that it brings.

To Tweet I say:
Thank you for touching my Love...
For encouraging my Love...
For pushing my Love...
He too (my Love) runs like the wind with swift feet that can take him to the moon and back.
He runs thoughts into my mind,
Of how he'll run to the end of the earth for me.

Thank you for that.

B....
I'll be love if you be love...
And I love you in return.
Everyone...Everywhere.
Kick start your athlete, and embrace the wind in your feet...
As your love runs to heaven with wings on his back.

It's really starting to piss me off when girls only speak to me when I'm with David! Or if they do speak, they look at me like I'm a foriegn language. I mean what the hell. I understand that they probably wanted him for themselves, but he's mine...should've stepped up ya game when you had the chance. Now it ain't no sense in hating me, when you wish you could be me. So I tell them:

"Lovin you is easy cause your beautiful.
And everytime that we...
Oooo I'm more in love with you."

And that boy have me like:
La-La-La-La-La
See we was standin up at the alter,
I was lookin at him...
He was lookin at me...
And all I could think to myself was,
OooWee!
I'm about to be his wifey.

I woke up and thought I was still dreamin,
Cause my dream was still dreamin next to me.
I sung in his ear:
La-La-La
La-La-La
La-La-La-La-La-La
But I didn't hit no high notes cause He know the only time I hit high notes,
Is when he...
His colon was still lingerin on his body...
Wave cap was still wavin...
And his man was still cravin,
If you know what I mean.

I kissed my man awake so I could give him some of that
Ebony Love.
And I could be the only Ebony he knows...
Ain't plant no seeds,
But our love continues to grow.

The reality of my reality is no technicallity.
I'm gone give my baby a baby when we ready ya dig.
Now that I got my diamonds...
We moments away,
A few scriptures away...
From me,
Givin him a baby boy with pretty brown eyes like daddy,
A smile like mommy,
A fight like Ali...
Float like a butterfly,
Sting like a bee.
Lyrically inclined with no choice but to spit POETRY.

But in the mean time we'll just combine our hearts,
To make one soul.
Give you me,
Give me you,
And let God take control.
La-La-La

Authentically,
Our love becomes the real thing...
Something to talk about,
Make the birds sing.
Spite wants to become a fly on the wall.
I said...
Spite,
Wants to become a fly on our wall...
See whats all the fuss is about.
But it's a compliment cause love conquerors all.
So you can keep ya fish eyes lookin at us to the side...
You hatin and I can understand why.

But as we continue to inspire,
As you desire to "wanna be."
It ain't no problem,
We'll give you pointers if you ask nicely.
Cause you too could be walkin on cloud 9.

He wears me on his arm like it's a fashion statement.
So he know gucci, babyphat, ain't got nothing on my apple bottom.
And look here miss thing, don't worry about how
Just know I got him.

I know mouths gone talk,
Just like shit gone bull.
But the next time you decide,to pull somebody to the side, to ask about what's mine...
Refer to us as one:
The future,
Mr. & Mrs. Braswell.

Sunday, September 03, 2006

Let me start by saying-
I love you.
As I begin to suck you into my worldly oxygen...
You help me breath better.

I see brighter days behind your medium dark brown eyes...
And I'm caught in the haze of you.
Gazing like floating memories on how I made you mine.

As we define eachother...
The greatest love of all.
Of all the many boys I thought I loved...
I love you as my man,
Friend,
lover,
future husband,
the most.

And I boast proudly of being made from your rib.
We match like lit fires.
I watch my day dreams turn into the here and now.
And somehow...
I wrapped you up in poetry and called you mine.

As you pull up chair to table to dine in my mind,
As my exibit.
I named you Ebony's David.
